Quality: High
Language: British English

Check Your Vocabulary workbooks are aimed at non-native speakers who want to build essential vocabulary and learn to speak fluent and natural-sounding English. For example, in English we use different words to describe different types of food when they go bad. We can describe meat as rotten, cheese as mouldy, milk as sour and butter as rancid - but we would not say sour meat, or rotten milk. Knowing how words are naturally used together is known as collocation. A good knowledge of these word combinations greatly improves the style of written and spoken language for non-native speakers. Knowledge of collocations is often tested in exams such as IELTS, TOEFL and TOEIC. Containing a range of word games, quizzes and exercises, this workbook will help intermediate learners to develop core language skills in a challenging, yet entertaining way.

High School English Grammar and Composition, 2nd Edition

Title: High School English Grammar and Composition, 2nd Edition

ISBN: 8121900093
Pages: 940

The material in the book has been further updated where called for. It has been felt necessary in particular to revise some material in the chapters dealing with adjectives, active and passive voice, articles and prepositions. Appendix I, which deals with American English, has been expanded. Appendix II has been replaced with a newer set of tests covering the important areas of grammar. [+/-]

It was in the year 1972 that the shrewd visionary Mr. Shyam Lai Gupta obtained the permission of Manecji Cooper Education Trust for the revision of this book and commissioned me to revise it thoroughly. The revised edition came out in 1973 and was well received. One of the main features of the revised edition was the addition of a great deal of new material (such as the three chapters on structures) based on the new developments in the study of English structure and usage. Subsequently the book was revised every four or five years and most extensively in 1999.

Unlike many traditional grammar books, the book in the present form helps the student to use the language as well as giving detailed information about the language. It provides ample guidance and practice in sentence building, correct usage, comprehension, written composition and other allied areas so as to equip the student with the ability to communicate effectively in English.

It is gratifying to learn that this classic work, though primarily intended for use in the Indian subcontinent, is also used in Sri Lanka, Malaysia, ingapore, Mauritius, etc. It is hoped that the book will be found useful in many more countries where English is used as a second or foreign language.

Kumon workbooks are based on the "Kumon Method", an educational philosophy that aims at unlocking the full learning potential of each individual child. The Kumon Method introduces learning concepts in an incremental, step-by-step approach, allowing children to master new skills easily and without anxiety or frustration. As a result, children gain confidence in their abilities and are motivated to learn on their own. [+/-]

Over 3.5 million children around the world use the Kumon Method to develop their math and reading skills. Kumon Math and Reading Centers help students become successful, confident and self-motivated learners.

But it’s not just the Kumon Method that makes the workbooks special. It’s also the care and research that goes into the editorial content, design and quality of the books. Our editorial experts have more than two decades of experience in producing books that are both fun and educational. Our designers create illustrations that attract and delight children. And the quality of our books is the best of any workbook on the market, with extra thick paper and the best available print quality. From pedagogy to paper, every one of our workbooks has been carefully crafted with your child’s best interests in mind.

Book list:
1. My Book Of Number Games 1-70 - 81 pages
This book contains two types of educational games. First are color-by-number exercises, which help children recognize numbers up to 70. Next are connect-the-dots exercises, which teach children ordinal numbers and the sequence of numbers between 1 and 70. Both types of exercises will create the basis skills needed for addition, subtraction and other advanced level math.

2. My Book Of Number Games 1-150 - 84 pages
This book builds on the skills developed by My Book of Number Games 1-70. In addition to reinforcing number recognition and number sequencing skills, My Book of Number Games 1 - 150 will help children understand the concept of a "digit," which will prepare them for higher-level multi-digit calculations. Mastering the concepts introduced in Kumon's two Number Games books will help children succeed when they progress to arithmetic and more advanced math.

3. My Book Of Rhyming Words And Phrases - 81 pages
Using games and exercises similar to those in My Book of Rhyming Words, this book helps children learn more advanced rhyming words and phrases. While learning to write and read situational phrases connected by conjunctions, such as "fox in box" and "cat in hat," children will begin to develop more advanced verbal skills.

4. My Book Of Rhyming Words - 82 pages
This book is for children who can read and write the twenty-six letters of the alphabet. Words that are familiar to children, such as hat, bat, rat and cat are grouped by the vowel and consonant combination of the last two letters. Through games and exercises that encourage children to trace letters and read aloud, children will learn how to read and write simple words.

5. My Book of Rhyming Words: Long Vowels - 83pages
Long vowels are the most difficult part of learning to read and write. Using a combination of Kumons systematic, step-by-step approach and established phonics theory, this book helps children understand how different vowel combinations make the same long vowel sounds. Ages 5-7

6. My Book of Writing Words: Learning about Consonants and Vowels - 81 pages
This workbook will show your child how to begin putting words together to make phrases, a crucial skill for sentence construction.
